Stage 5 Geelong to Melbourne 94km

Our final day in the saddle will see another group departure from Geelong.  The group will avoid the busy roads on a ride that has us skirting the ancient You Yangs and passing towns of Lara and Little River towards the outskirts of Melbourne.  From Werribee we plan to ride en mass on the Federation Trail which follows the (disused) heritage-listed open sewer trench built in the 1890s that serviced Melbourne for over 100 years.
Arriving at the Westgate bridge via bike paths we will cross the Yarra via the Westgate punt.  A short skirt around Port Melbourne to Beach Road and finally Fawkner Park.  Tradition demands a ceremonial arrival and a police escort to the Alfred Hospital mid-afternoon for the final ceremonies and family BBQ welcomes all riders safely home.
